Porters Ski Area is the closest ski area to Christchurch, with a short access road, fantastic learner slopes and a mountain of terrain for experts. For skiing and snowboarding, there are 10 km of slopes and 5 lifts available. The elevations of 1300 and 1980 m. The season starts late June and ends late September.

With overnight snow making capabilities, the season at Porters is often one of the longest in New Zealand.
Porters Ski Area is a great destination for both snow and summer hiking in Canterbury, New Zealand. The Porters region is part of the Southern Alps, which offers challenging and breathtaking hikes. Depending on the hike chosen, you may experience mountain pass crossings, river crossings, glacier views, remote valleys and more. Popular summer trails include Porters Pass, Big Ben, and Mt Williams. There is also the recently established Porters-Arthur's Pass Track, which crosses two mountain passes and is the longest track in the region.
